Process
Coat of Arms Store is a closet and curation project showcasing archival clothing from Japan and Europe.
The logo for this project was inspired by traditional
crests from the MET Museum’s archives. Based on
three family crests, a sketch was drafted and then polymodeled in Autodesk Maya. The coat of arms is a symbolic design passed down across generations representing core values and ideals of a family or community.
In taking on this brand, Coat of Arms signals the nature of exchange and inheritance that comes with buying used clothing while celebrating the values each designer has brought to their garments. Abstracting the details in the sketch and rendering the crest in glass brings attention to foreward thinking vision of the designers showcased by the store and the timeless nature of their collections.
Outcome
For the final promo, a progression of close-ups reveals the entirety of the crest logo. Utilizing dynamic camera movements and lighting, the model appears to shapeshift from frame to frame. Static effects were imployed for the final transition, contrasting with the exaggerated and fluid form of the model. In parallel to the animation the soundtrack builds upon a drawn out, distorted note towards soft, rythmic keys as the crest comes into view. The soundtrack was developed in collaboration with editor and filmmaker Shay Burgman.
